Dancing with God

Dancing With God

When I meditated on the word  Guidance,

I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.

I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.

The movement doesn't flow with the music,

and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.

When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,

both bodies begin to flow with the music.

One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back

or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.

It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.

The dance takes surrender, willingness,

and attentiveness from one person

and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word  Guidance.

When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i".

"God, "u" and "i" dance."

God, you, and I dance.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust

that I would get  guidance about my life.

Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings

and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday.

May you abide in God, as God abides in you.

Dance together with God, trusting God to lead

and to guide you through each season of your life.

This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached.

If God has done anything for  you in your life,

please share this message with someone else.

There is no cost but a lot of rewards;

so let's continue to pray for one another.

YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS !              New Work from three of our favorite choreograhers !    Don't miss the premiere of 3 new pieces by Mona Storling-Enna, Marc Wayne, and Courtney Kierl-Bourman.  One of the wonders of Storling Dance Theater is that such strong artists with such different approaches can work together so successfully.  These three top choreographers have all expressed their appreciation for getting to work with a company that is full of such broadly skilled dancers with such magnetic stage presence.    Performing alongside our choreographers will be senior company members Tawny Gentry, Asst. Artistic Director Tobin James, and Anne Wayne; company members Alexandra Wilson, Andrea Goldstein, and Laura Holladay.  Our apprentices, Jillian Daco and Mary Marshall, will be joined by guest artist, Marissa McKay, and trainees Talessa Bice, Emily Minnick, and Kristen Stanley.    Alexandra Wilson will be performing a new solo set on her by Mona Storling-Enna, entitled "Kamakazi Mamma".    Not to be missed !!

Culture House Opportunity

I know it seems odd that I continually lift up the power of dance given the reality that I have two left feet.  However, I see the incredible ability of the combination of music, dance and human emotion wrapped into an event--it can move people in way that listening to words cannot. 

I repeatedly promote the work of The Culture House in this blog.  I'm a BIG fan of their work.  Belinda and I highly value our friendship with Jeremiah and Mona Enna. Jeremiah is the Executive Director.  They have a deep love for God, for His church and a super understanding of our culture.  They take their convictions and their talents and combine the result in a way that grabs the attention of people in our culture.  Dance and the use of the arts can reach people in ways I cannot as a pastor. 

There is a dance coming up the first of November.  It is at Indian Creek.  Consider it for your calendar before November gets full.  There may be someone you could invite to the dance and then plan a followup conversation.  I agree with the apostle Paul on this, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ.  I do all this to spread the Good News, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings. 1 Corinthians 9:22, 23.

Suspended Grace

I don't know what it is about dance but it says something at an emotional level that transcends words.  Their next dance is the story of the woman caught in adultery, John 8, put to dance.  I'm amazed when body language speaks more eloquently than words.  If you haven't heard about this I want you to know.  If you weren't planning to go, I can say I have yet to be disappointed.

May 10th will see Storling return to the stage with "Suspended Grace" at the Polsky Theater at The Carlsen  Center.  "Suspended Grace" is one of the most powerful and confronting production Storling has created with choreography and costumes by Mona Enna.  Courtney Kierl-Bourman, Tawny Gentry, Mimmi Makela, Alexandra Wilson, and Tobin James join Marc Waynce and cast for riveting telling of the woman whom Jesus saved from being stoned by the Pharisees. 

BONUS !  Plus this will be the first time that Storling and Marc Wayne's Maxxas Dance Theater will share the stage together with guest vocalist Kevin Bogan to make for a sure hit experience.  You have seen Maxxas' "R" and most recently "3 Days".  Come see Maxxas present a collection of gems from their repertoire at the Polsky !!
