Belinda and I started the week at Tall Oaks for a retreat for Pastors in Olathe. There were more Pastors present for this prayer event than any Pastor's Prayer retreat any of us could remember. Gary Schmitz, Steve Weber and Nancy Mitchell coordinated the event. The goal was to down-shift into intimacy with God and to connect in John 17 unity. I felt like we got there. For me it took some time. It was almost like I had to go through decompression first. God gave us a great burden for one church with many congregations. I believe we will press in to delight in God more than before and we will work together in unprecedented ways.
This was the last week for Nancy Mitchell as my Assistant. She starts training Angie Stevenson on Monday and they will work together the next two weeks. She has served effectively for nine years. Nancy is going to work for Citywide Prayer in a new capacity. She will serve as a volunteer for a job that she will create. God has put it on her heart to teach and coach churches to become houses of prayer. She will continue to serve at Indian Creek as our prayer coordinator where she does a super job. I'm very grateful and thankful for the way Nancy has walked in courage and faithfulness. We are a better church for the ways she has used her gifts. Help me thank Nancy for a job well done.
Tonight I performed a wedding for Brandon Estelle and Tracy Anderson. It was a lot of fun. Brandon is one of the most creative, fun and talented people I know. He has been the drummer for Superchick for the last four years. All the band joined him in the wedding party. The wedding went great except that I forgot one of the live songs. Ray got all ready to sing, he had his guitar out and I left him hanging out to dry. Whew! I've never done that before. But Lester Estelle Sr. and I tied the knot tight and we all had a good time. The reception was a lot of fun. Brandon invited several bands and individuals to play and sing. Wow! Talk about talent! It wa great to talk to the members of the Superchick band and learn that they are the real deal. Sometimes when you meet people who are famous you go away disappointed with their personal life. In this case it was just the opposite. I wish Brandon and Tracy the best.
